• The title of this episode is a parody of Aesop's classic fable The Boy Who Cried Wolf.
  • The Caped Cod is a pun on the word Cape Cod.
  • The Caped Cod considers pieces of garbage to be his loyal subjects.
  • Upon "discovering" the world above water, the Caped Cod assumes the first living thing he meets, Dudley is the Dog King. In a display of delusion and paranoia, he vows to seize Dudley's "kingdom". His insanity made obvious when he is jailed to the Petropolis Aquarium (which is actually an asylum for the criminally insane) after being foiled by Dudley and Kitty.
  • Dudley's purchase of the magic beans (which later grow into a giant beanstalk) is a reference to the children's story, Jack and the Beanstalk.
  • This episode was part of Nick's "U-Pick" week and won.
  • As seen in the image of the aquarium, on the building's rooftop is a fishbowl with a castle. This could be a reference to Cosmo and Wanda's fishbowl home in another Butch Hartman animated show, The Fairly OddParents.

  • At the part where Dudley gets the candy from the destroyed vending machine, he leaves the 50 dollar bill and gets the candy. Why didn’t he just keep the 50 dollar bill and get the candy? However, this could just be a gag that Dudley is stupid.
